Welty Home Earns 13th Consecutive Perfect Rating

WHEELING—Welty Home in Wheeling has earned a perfect rating from the West Virginia Office of Health Facilities Licensure and Certification Office (OHFLAC) for the 13th consecutive year.
Few organizations achieve a deficiency-free survey from OHFLAC, said Welty Home Manager Tess Gaudino. Even fewer have been recognized for 13 consecutive years for the quality of their programs. “This is an incredible accomplishment,” Gaudino said. “Our staff take a lot of pride in the care they provide for our residents. This survey shows that they’re doing a great job.”
OHFLAC’s annual inspections are conducted to make sure residents of nursing homes and assisted living communities like Welty Home receive the best possible care, Gaudino said. OHFLAC promotes quality services and high standards of care and sees that facilities comply with state licensing rules and federal certification regulations. Pleased with what they saw at Welty Home, OHFLAC surveyors have recommended many of its processes and procedures to other facilities, she said.
Welty Home has nurses on duty 24 hours a day, along with personal care assistants to help residents as needed. Earlier this year, Welty Home entered into a preferred rehabilitation agreement with Blue Sky Therapy to provide contract rehabilitation services to its residents. Residents can now receive physical, occupational and speech therapy services at the Welty Home instead of traveling offsite.
Welty Home has completely renovated its 52 private rooms, installing new carpets, furnishings and window treatments. New energy-efficient, walk-in showers were added to each room’s private bathroom. In addition, the living room, dining room, chapel and activities area received new furnishings and décor. The renovation has made Welty Home even more beautiful, comfortable and inviting for its residents.
Welty Home is part a continuum of care offered by the Welty Corporation that includes independent retirement living at Clara and Bertha Welty Apartments, the Braddock Apartments and Welty TownHomes; and intermediate and skilled nursing care at Good Shepherd, a five-star nursing home recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of America’s Best Nursing Homes. Welty Home is located at 21 Washington Avenue, at the corner of National Road in Wheeling’s Edgewood neighborhood. For information about Welty Home, contact Gaudino at (304) 242-5233.
