WHEELING—The American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA) honored Donald R. Kirsch, administrator of Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, with the 2014 Eli Pick Facility Leadership Award. The award was announced during the ACHCA’s 48th Annual Convocation and Exposition in Las Vegas.
Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling Administrator, Donald R. Kirsch receives congratulations from Father William Seli, SM, on receiving the American College of Healthcare Administrators Leadership Award. Father Seli is a priest with the Society of Mary and a resident of Good Shepherd.
Two hundred and seventy six administrators were awarded leadership awards nationally. They were chosen from a pool of 1,284 nationwide facility leaders who were eligible for this award regardless of their membership with the American College. GSNH is not a member of the American College; Kirsch was one of only a few honorees from organizations that are not ACHCA members.
The award is based on the premise that facility excellence is a reflection of leadership excellence. It recognizes the administrator whose leadership propelled the facility to excellence. Eligibility for the award is based on three years of skilled nursing facility survey data, including the health, life safety and resident surveys, as well as top quartile performance on designated quality measures.
Kirsch, who was not present at the convocation, accepted the award on behalf of Good Shepherd’s staff. “Our staff continuously go above and beyond to provide outstanding care and make Good Shepherd as friendly, comfortable, clean and safe as possible for our residents,” Kirsch said. “This award is a validation of their good work.”
Good Shepherd Nursing Home, at 159 Edgington Lane in Wheeling, is part of a continuum of care that includes independent living and assisted living options offered by the Welty Home for the Aged Inc., a nonprofit organization.
