Summer Mission Program Kicks Off in Preston County

PRESTON COUNTY—The Catholic churches in Preston County (St. Sebastian Parish in Kingwood, St. Zita Parish in Masontown and St. Edward the Confessor Mission in Terra Alta) recently kicked off their summer home repair program for 2014.

Volunteers will be helping more than 100 families in the region, replacing roofs and repairing their homes for free again this summer. St. Zita parishioner Darrell Fedeles has taken over coordination of the program from Father Arthur Bufolge, former pastor who is now pastor of St. John Neumann Parish in Marlinton, St. Mark the Evangelist Mission in Bartow and St. Bernard Chapel in Snowshoe.


Morgantown Youth Wins Catholic Daughters Contest

Patrick Koon, a fifth-grader at St. Francis Central Catholic School in Morgantown, won first place in the Computer Arts division of the West Virginia Catholic Daughters of the Americas annual Education Contest. His entry has been submitted to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas National Education Contest. Koon was sponsored by Morgantown Court St. Ursula.


Classrooms without Borders Takes Students to Poland

Students from Bishop Donahue Memorial High School in McMechen and Central Catholic High School (CCHS) in Wheeling visit the statue of St. John Paull II at the Wawel Cathedral in Krakow, Poland, during their Classrooms without Borders Trip July 5. During the trip, students learned about the atrocities of the Holocost. With the students are Vincent de Paul Schmidt, superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, right, and teachers from CCHS.
