Charles Eugene McGinnis, Sr., 73, of Wheeling, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014, in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born January 23, 1940, in Wheeling, the son of the late John C. and Frances Jane Neff McGinnis.
Mr. McGinnis was a steel worker for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel at the Benwood Plant and the Yorkville Plant where he retired; he was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Wheeling.
He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Charles loved auctions, flea markets, Southern West Virginia and traveling and camping with his family. He also loved tinkering and working in his garage and liked collecting coalmine script.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arley ”Jim” McGinnis and his twin grandsons, Ryan and Tyler Magers, in February of 2001.
Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Sandra Kay Turvey McGinnis; a son, Father Charles E. McGinnis, Jr.; two daughters, Cheri Ann Taggart and her husband, Randy of Triadelphia and Melissa Lynn Magers and her husband, Ron of Benwood; five grandchildren, Jordan Matthews, Zoey and Chase Taggart, Matthew Stachura and his wife, Rachael and Morgan Magers; three great-grandchildren, Paytyn, Caydynce and Reagyn Stachura; two brothers, John David McGinnis and Phillip McGinnis and his wife, Helen; a sister, Frances Jane Stahnke and her husband, William; and several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated January 27 at St.Vincent de Paul Church with Father Charles E. McGinnis, Jr. and Father John Mulcahy as concelebrants. Interment was in Stone Church Cemetery, Wheeling.
